Layout

Command Description

Starting with T4I 26.4.0.0, the new Compact layout is the default ribbon icon layout for all T4I users. The Layout command allows users to switch between the new Compact layout and the Classic layout.

Compact layout

The compact layout keeps the most used T4I commands (+ some others) visible, whereas the rest are hidden on expanded panels. Some commands are also (newly) grouped in the command drop-down menus.

Classic layout

That's the old good icon layout with one improvement. We adjusted the Be.Smart T4I panel by moving the Edit settings command to the very left on the ribbon, adding the command to switch between layouts, hiding the iLogic commands button, and moving the Edit iProperties command to its own dedicated panel. The arrangement of commands is therefore more logical than in older T4I versions.

Be.Smart T4I and iProperties panels are common for both Compact and Classic layouts.

Switching between layouts

When you switch between layouts, only the predefined set of panels is activated. In other words, we deal with the visibility of panels but not the position of individual commands.

Panels with a dash (-) symbol and iLogic Samples belong to the Classic layout.

After every Inventor (or just T4I add-in) restart, the defaults of the selected layout will be loaded. It means all the changes you made to the icon layout will be lost. If you want to keep your ribbon customizations, use the InventorControlled mode from Advanced settings. This will allow your changes to the icon layout to stay persistent even after the Inventor restart.

When you click the Layout command on the Be.Smart T4I panel while the InventorControlled mode is active, your changes will be reset to selected defaults (T4I will ask you first).

Command Settings

Be.Smart T4I ribbon -> Be.Smart T4I panel -> Advanced settings -> General tab -> General -> LayoutPreset.

Use these settings in case you want to keep your own modification to the Compact or Classic layouts. In such a case, change the LayoutPreset variable value to InventorControlled.

For using the Compact or Classic layouts, it is not needed to change the value of the LayoutPreset variable manually. It is changed automatically by using the Layout command.

Use the LayoutPreset value set to InventorControlled at your own risk.

  2. Perform changes to the Be.Smart T4I ribbon panels.

  3. Upon Inventor restart, your changes to the Be.Smart T4I ribbon will be retained.

Reset layout changes to defaults

  1. Open the part, assembly, or drawing document.

  2. Click the Layout command.

  3. Select the Compact or Classic layout.

  4. Confirm the warning asking you to override your custom modifications.

  5. Ribbon icon layout will be changed.

When switching layouts, we are dealing with the visibility of panels but not the position of individual commands. In rare situations, the Inventor may interfere with our attempts to set the panels' visibility, leading to unexpected command positions or visibility on the individual panels. In such rare cases, adjust the command's position manually or reset the InventorCustomization.xml file.

Do not change the InventorCustomization.xml file unless you know what you are doing!
